Feminist magazine Spare Rib now available online

Spare Rib launched in 1972 and gave important coverage to the emerging Women’s Liberation Movement, until it eventually closed in 1993.

You can now download all 239 editions of the magazine for free via the British Library via this link.

And if you prefer to view them in their original format, remember that we’ve also got most of the back copies – as well as other books and magazines dating back to the 1970 – here in our women’s library.

Displaying our craft at Sherwood Art Week

We have a Craft Club here at the Centre and the women have been meeting and supporting one another regularly, crafting while they chat.  In June, when they were invited to create a display for Sherwood Art Week, there was a mix of excitement and slight horror, but they responded to the challenge in style, creating their display “Away with Words”.

Having been working with paper crafts for a while, the group decided on a recycled paper theme for their display, creating beautiful folded paper books and flowers. A paper boat linked the display together, sitting on a river of words – words carefully chosen to  describe the positive role the Craft Club plays in their lives. The women then attended the Sherwood Art Week Secret Garden Craft Fair to confidently showcase their work to the general public.
